Gemstone of the Month- September
With September here, everyone is switching from the summer scene into their regular routine. To follow similarly, let’s follow our routine showcasing the gem of the month. In the spotlight is none other than the lustrous sapphire. Sapphires fall under the Precious stone category and it is recognized by its signature blue hue, which represents the heavens and divinity. Sapphires are found in other colors or even colorless. However, the color red does not apply to this stone, as those are Rubies. Mining happens commonly in the eastern hemisphere. Sold all around the world, their origins affects pricing. It wouldn’t be a gem of the month post without our monthly history lesson, so let’s delve into the history of Sapphires.
The name has Greek and Latin origins, meaning blue stone in both respective languages. Guidance seeking Greeks wore Sapphires in hopes that oracles would answer their life problems. They were useful for Hindu worship and Buddhist holy introspection. The stone itself represents self control and loyalty, focusing on self improvement characteristics. Fun fact, a guest on Princess Diana’s engagement ring was Miss Sapphire herself.
